Doesn’t seem interested but still talking to me?

I’m American and met a girl from East Germany while traveling in hostel. We were staying in same shared room. I find her cute and introduce myself when I get in. Invite her to hangout. Buy her a beer and have friendly chat. Her and I are heading to the same next country so I ask her what her travel plans are and she says she plans to hitchhike. To this I say it could be dangerous.. if she stays at our hostel one more night we can travel there together by bus (pretty normal to travel with friends you meet in hostel). She insists that she wants to try hitchhiking so I in the end just give her some advice (like make a sign with your destination, I give her a link to an e-sim she can get so she has data there, look up some hostels that seem high ratings to suggest to her etc.)

I also mention I’ll have an airbnb and (seeing as she maybe is trying to save on money) is welcome to stay at mine when I arrive the next day if she wants (no real response to that).

So I get there the next day and she never got data on her phone. She invites me to some couch surf meetup thing but then mentions at it that she will be couchsurfing with a guy the next night before her flight (after ignoring my offer to have a place to crash)

I don’t even try to hangout w/ her last night (as she doesn’t really seem interested in me). Just message her that we probably won’t see each other again but wish her well on her travels (and also slightly passive aggressively tell her I hope her couchsurfing host is nice guy, because honestly wtf…) and that is that…

Then she responds with “Ohh thanks! Let me know if you're coming to Germany tho!”

Huh? Why is this girl who’s preferring to hitchhike and stay with complete stranger over me trying to keep door open to hangout in Germany? I respond half a day later with some basic “sure, I’ll let you know when I’m there”

Thinking that’s the end of it again. Then she messages at 2 am “that’s nice!!:)”

Confusing behavior… What’s her deal? Just bored texting?

Whoa dude, that whole situation is super bizarre. Girls can be so weird sometimes, I don't even understand all their behavior.

It definitely seemed like she wasn't that into you from the start if she ignored your offer to hangout more and then crashed with some random dude instead. Like why even bother staying in the same hostel if she wasn't gonna give you a chance?

My best guess is she was just being friendly at first to be polite since you met in the hostel. But isn't actually interested. The late night random messages probably mean nothing, she's probably bored and chatting with a bunch of people.

I'd just stop messaging her back honestly. You obviously made more effort than she was willing to make it seems. Don't waste your time trying to figure out what's going on in her head - girls are confusing! Focus your energy on meeting others who actually want to hang out.

This chick just sounds flaky. Don't get your hopes up about meeting up in Germany either. Odds are she'll flake on that too if you even went through with it. You can do better than that man!

The Eastern part of Germany under the Berlin Wall (Major cities Leipzig and Dresden). They are still culturally distinct from Western Germany so I was just being more specific since Southern Germans (Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg) Don’t behave like this at all and are much more sociable gregarious (I’ve dates Bavarians in the past but this is the first East German girl I’ve talked to so could be some regional behavior thing)
