I have many, many issues with how shonen anime like one piece handles their female cast members. Especially if they’re written by men and adapted into anime by studios also run by men. Robin, the character pictured as your example, is not only drawn to have an excessively busty figure to impossible degrees but is also heavily whitewashed compared to her first appearances. This can go into a whole slew of problematic marketing in Japan not just for colorist skin-bleaching ideas but also just how heavily women are oversexualized in any male-marketed media, but I’m not going to because I’m not patient enough to do that.


One Piece isn’t the only anime with this problem though, so many popular shonen anime have women just for the purpose of sexualizing them and hooking them up with one of the male characters. As far as I know, One Piece hasn’t done this in any official capacity (hell, you could argue the whole crew is a polycule since nothing is canon outside of a few specific relationships) but Demon Slayer was incredibly disappointing to me.


Their main heroine Nezuko is not only treated like a Maguffin plot device rather than given scripted lines (the number of which she has I can count on one hand), but she switches between being heavily infantilized when she’s not fighting, and being heavily over sexualized by pulling her tits out of her kimono when she goes into her “demon form” or whatever.


Also, Gurren Lagann is just as famous for their bikini and booty-shorts wearing gun slinger girl love interest as it is for its well-animated gundam fight sequences. God I hated what they did to her character, the 2-dimensional tsundere archetype that is made just for the purpose of hooking her up with guys who die shortly after that romantic connection is revealed. You want a plot device to make their deaths sadder? Fine, don’t make it a fucking woman. Make the characters likable enough for me to grieve them, not make me try to feel bad for them through this girl who, 3 episodes ago, was kicking this same man’s ass and calling him a pervert like she hated him.


Naruto is also so egregious in this case, heavily sexualizing and mischaracterizing so much of the female cast when doing their filler episodes. I’m sure it’s a similar case with the Boruto series — they did not need a second gen, this is going to turn into some Simpson’s shit. A movie, fine, they already have like 14 what’s one more? But not a series. And also the fact that sexy jutsu is a common tactic employed by the main protagonist, where he just turns into a naked woman. While this is a valid fighting strategy for women (i. e. Anne Bonny and Mary Read) when it’s specifically in tv shows used for male entertainment, that’s when I know it’s not to respect women, it’s to get dicks hard. It genuinely upsets me, as if 3 paragraphs ragging on this shit didn’t make that clear enough.


TL;DR - shonen animes written by men are the reason why I don’t want to watch anime again.

Is what disgusting? The image? I mean it isn't great. I don't really know what the point of it is. Looks like a cartoon trying to take her top off. That is the classic girls crossed hands technique for removing a top so I know she isn't putting it on. I guess I really don't know the reason you are asking and what would be disgusting about it. It is just an image. It does not violate any of the terms of this site when it comes to nudity or anything like that so I guess I will have to go with no not disgusting. Do I like it or does it envoke any sort of emotion from me? No it does not. It is just a cartoon image in my eyes. Why are you asking girls only out of curiousity?
