They are natural grifters seeking pecuniary advantages even over a couple of dollars.

I learn't to be careful with one girl I was going out with for a while, when she offered to shout me. My meal and drink might have been $30. The next time she would remind me then she would go to town ordering oysters and champagne and it would be $150 for her alone.

So effectively she would try to 5X what she spent
