Ok here's my take and some people might hate it but it's mine. If you gender affirm enough and look the part, I'm not gonna pull down your pants to see if you've got a pussy or not. Whatever, I don't care. Afterall if a cisgender man just wanted to walk in, he would and he will.

But if you look like a man (obvious beard, male facial structure, etc.) and you're putting no effort into looking like the woman you feel that you are, I'm obviously gonna feel uncomfortable being in the bathroom at the same time as you.

Some trans people are born with ambiguous or feminine features and some are not as lucky, I'm aware of that and I hope they still feel comfortable in their own skin. But you need to go to a gender-neutral bathroom if you don't look like an obvious woman. I don't want to feel like the place I'm taking a shit is being taken over like every other place a cis woman owns.

There is a difference between bathrooms and locker rooms. I would prefer biological men not be changing in front of or seeing girls change in front of them.

There's 4 possible alternatives to just letting everyone use the restroom like normal (as far as strictly binary gendering can be normal, anyways): Force all trans people to use the wrong restroom. This would keep trans women out of women's restrooms, but it would also force trans men back into women's restrooms, and if you think the  women  look like men then I have some bad news for you about what the men look like... Force  only trans women  to use the wrong restroom. This would keep both trans women and men out of the women's restroom, but it would also put all the trans women and men into the men's restroom. Men may not be as happy about this solution, since it means anyone deemed even a little masculine (including many  cis women ) will use the men's room. Men may become a minority in their own restroom. Ban all trans people from all restrooms (or perhaps make them little special toilets to use separate from everyone else). This is effectively what was done to women after WWI when they wanted to keep working outside of the home, what was done to black people after the Civil War during the Jim crow era, and would be an obvious attempt to force trans people out of public life and more officially into second class citizenry. Again, this would also effect anyone who doesn't fit perfect feminine appearance, including cis women—and on the flip side  cis men  who are not perfectly masculine in appearance could also be harassed for trying to use public facilities. De-gender public restrooms entirely. Either add urinals to women's rooms or remove them from men's rooms (and replace them with more stalls), and replace gendered signs with neutral "restroom" signs. Some countries have already done this in many places, and have seen no increase in restroom-related violence or crime. A lot of people in America specifically would throw a hissy fit about this though, so I understand why it wouldn't be a perfect solution and would be incredibly hard to implement in the near future.

I'm not a girl but I think this is the best way to look at this problem:

Are the bathrooms in your house gender based?
No? Of course they aren't, because they are self contained, no one can see you when you are in there even if they tried, and the door locks.

I'm fairly sure that most men and most women will have 1 of 2 views about this:
The nudist or voyeur opinion:
1. They are perfectly fine stripping naked/pooping/peeing in front of random strangers.
or the more common opinion:
2. They are like most people and think that the stalls in the bathrooms should just need door locks and no gaps to look under, around, or over, so that anyone, male or female, enterting the multistall bathroom, can't see you going to the bathroom in your stall anyway.

Why does this matter? Because most men and women don't even feel comfortable with the SAME sex seeing them go to the bathroom, and I think this issue gets largely ignored for some idiotic reason, because most heterosexual people find that even MORE uncomfortable than someone of the opposite sex peeking at them while they piss.

In gender neutral bathrooms, if a random woman peeks at me, its rude, but I'm probably not going to find it repulsive, at least not as much as if another guy was doing it, unless she's ugly.

Most women are going to be the same way about this. But again, nearly everyone is going to prefer complete privacy, so stop building bathrooms with urinals and peekable stalls and these conversations about what kind of person should be in what bathroom will be rendered moot.

I don’t care as long as they’re just in there to use the bathroom. I mean, why would it be any of my business what they do in there so long as they’re also minding their own business and not hurting anyone?

The risks that people see with transgender people using women’s or men’s bathrooms are there whether or not transgender people are allowed to use the bathroom that’s designated for one of the genders they identify with anyways. The risk of someone getting assaulted in a bathroom doesn’t just magically appear just because transgender people are allowed to use whichever bathroom they choose.

I don't care if this sounds transphobic, but I would definitely mind someone who was once a man (with or without their manparts intact) using a women's bathroom where my wife or daughter may be in/using. And, no I'm not saying this without reason, but I have witnessed, and seen and heard cases where men who identified as women and even trans women, would go into female spaces like this and then harass women and girls.

Just make gender-neutral bathrooms for said people and if they have a problem with that, then they can go take a dump outside for all I care.

Now my family and me all use our home bathroom nothing with an all bathroom especially college or a schools!

Also we do have pepper spray and a whistle! Not just for the bathroom.

Biology isn't bigotry. Just because I believe in legal restrictions for the purpose of public safety doesn't mean I want all trans people to go away or think they're bad. I believe that people can do what they want with their lives and to their bodies even if I don't approve because it's not my life but I'm not going to ignore biology and science to make someone feel better because I hurt their feelings when I said they were different than normal woman on a biological level which is a hard and fast fact no matter how much you whine about it. This is why stuff like "No trans men in womans sports" was a winning issue for trump that was good press.

How many times per day do people pee/poop/change a tampon, etc? billions of times every day right? how many women get raped by trans women in public restrooms per day? are there really rapists out there who dress up as women to rape women in the public restrooms, but because trans women aren't allowed in the public restroom, decide to not rape anyone? And who is going to look up everyone's skirt to make sure the lunch lady isn't a biological male?

This is a non-issue. My guess is that you're a million times more likely to be killed by gun than raped in a public restroom by someone who would otherwise be deterred by bathroom bans for trans people.

This world is retarded especially in western countries. I grew up in 90s as a kid, we played board games, went to BlockBuster for Friday nights after school to rent a video game or watch TGIF on ABC, ride bikes out doors with friends, make snowmen, etc. Now young people today are soo confused with their gender and attach a kabillion ideologies and get triggered not using pronouns. Like F-sakes, my teachers got my name wrong for yearsssss and I never got triggered, sensitive a$$ generation today. There are two genders, male and female. The fact that we normalize naked and half naked adults dancing around kids during pride month and pride parades where its legit pedophilia its disgusting! I dont mind in school because its all people we know, we have i think a total of 6 trans kids in school and we are okay with it, but in public bathrooms its really creepy, at least was for me. I was in a public bathroom with like 3 of my girl friends and this guy who was like at least 60 with a crop top leggings and a super hairy body with a purple wig walks in and like the look he gave us we were legit shivering in fear so as soon as he went into one of the stalls we ran out.

There is no real need for separate restrooms. All you need is one room with totally private stalls. Saves space, allows for more stalls, and results in equal wait times for all.

My college dorms had coed bathrooms, with the standard metal stalls. No one seemed to have a problem with it.

Might be a harder sell in the general public. But if it's a single-user bathroom they should all be mixed gender.
