Has anyone ever had a cardiac catherization before? What did It feel like?

They have a new way of doing it, a surgeon puts a wire in through your wrist instead of your groin and there's no pain. The wire goes through your artery into your heart. There might be a small itch or pinching around your wrist like a mosquito bite for a day or so, but the groin one could really hurt for awhile in an area you don't want to be hurting when they used to do it that way.

While they're doing it you're half out of it, so you're aware but everything is quiet and dim so you're very comfortable. There are about 10 doctors and nurses in the room with you so you're very safe. It takes less than an hour.

They look around, watching the wire and blood vessels on an x-ray, clean out any problems or put in a stent which opens a blocked or narrow artery and restores normal blood flow and you feel back to your normal self when it's over instead of out of breath or whatever your issue was. It's amazing they can do all that tiny stuff with just a wire.

My mum had one. She was awake and said she felt the whole thing but it wasn't too bad. But she wasn't one to complain either.

I am not surprised. You work too hard and you have other stuff to deal with. The test is not too bad but you won't be able to do physical stuff for a while.

How long did you have to wait before going back to normal activity

I was 40 years old and still lifting heavy. I think I took a month off. I went back to work after a weeks or so. but just sat in my office / it is a really strange thing. They put an actual sandbag over the wound to keep pressure on it. You have to lie on your back for 8 hours. It does not hurt but I hope I never have to do it again.

That's going to suck for me. I can't lay in one position for an hour, let alone 8 hours. Also being out of work just when I'm starting to get back on my feet is really going to kill me. I've lost 10 weeks last year from my wife going in and out of the hospital.

I hope neither of us have to go through this more than once.

You need to just suck it up and do this. your health is the most valuable thing that you have. I know that this past year has been tough but you can be tough too. It will all be over before you know it. Hopefully they will not find any abnormalities and in a couple of weeks you can go an live your life.

I know by experience from relatives, that it might be stressful obviously, so... the approach will be key, if your heart pressure is off, they might not even do it, but...

trust the nurses, do trust the doctors, the anesthesiologist... whoever you feel you can trust to relax and calm down, focus on them... everyone there will be there for you, and to take care of it

I know it's very easy say and not easy to do, but... trust that it will be okay, because it will be okay

Yes my doctor is doing the procedure. I told him if he doesn't do it, I'm not having it done
