I feel like guys hold onto compliments more dearly than girls typically would, the way a man is expected to act typically doesn’t include compliments, it may be why so many feel undervalued even though a lot of women really appreciate many things men do even when not verbally expressing it.

Yes, usually friends. I don’t care if strangers on the street think im flirting, they’ll never see me again, so I freely compliment them.

Yes, I only compliment band shirts to strangers. When it comes to men, only friends receive compliments. Mostly because I feel others would misunderstand it, as that is what most guys' compliments are.

The gender difference in giving and interpreting received compliments is probably due to a small group that uses them most actively but with wrong intentions or in a weird way.
I only give what I like to receive an I then even less because I think others would think the same way as me about it.
