I’m a massive over thinker.. I hooked up with this guy 3 times now and I can’t help but fixate on what he thought of me. I’m honestly super insecure even as a 21 year old. Anyway we did hook up and during the hook up he would talk about how hot i looked and then after we were done he said “how do you still look so good?” and I don't know it just feels so... weird for me to hear? I was an overweight kid/teen growing up and lost a bunch of weight last year so I’ve been getting more attention. But I can't help but think he was lying to me to make me less nervous or something I don't know.

Meh you can never tell sometimes when comes to sincerity. I can usually tell but iv spent the better part of my life studying people out of habit. Guys can have any amount of reasons to say one thing or another. Usually you can tell by the wording they use or the way they present themselves in conversation through body language.

1. Some want to try and get lucky so they will make you feel as good as possible so they have a better chance of scoring, usually if you reject them they turn on you viciously and call you named or try to make you feel guilty. These types usually don't have a problem with being shy and will even try to initiate contact if they can get away with it. They are usually shallow and often think of themselves and their needs as apposed to anyone else's.

2. Some are genuinely kind, you can tell this usually by how they phrase their compliments and how they treat you. A lot of genuine people tend to be shy, so most will refrain from commenting on your looks and if they do comment it will be more or less about trying to compliment a certain feature, cloths, eyes, hair, whatever, you get the picture.

3. Some are manipulators, they are a lot like the men who wanna get lucky but their ultimate goal is to get into your head and make you do what they want. These guys are usually very slick, intelligent. Its hard to tell them apart because they are so adept at playing whatever part they need to play to get what they want. They can even imitate a shy kind guy if they wanted to.

What I'm trying to express to you with these few examples is that men come in all shapes, colors, sizes and mindsets and unless you learn to read them you will always risk something. Some have certain tendencies, some have more than one tendency as for example I am a genuine and kind person however I am also capable of manipulating people if I so choose to. Like you I am an overthinker too so i'm very versed at looking at things through multiple perspectives. So to answer your question simply, yes a guy would would compliment you even if they didn't mean it but that can be said for any human on the planet woman or men. Just depends on what they motivations are.

Rarely. Probably only to get hookups or to stroke his ego by getting female attention.

That said, compliments during a hookup are almost certainly genuine because he's enjoying himself and is relaxed.
