you need to stay busy.
Doing thing you like, trying different things, not just sitting in from of your phone, tablet, computer, tv, but actually getting outside, going for a walk without ear buds, or headphones, listening to nature.
My Aunt used to tell me that she doesn't know how she had time to work she was so busy.
As you get older 50s, 60s you start to realize that life is getting shorter every day. You begin to lose classmates, friends, relatives, or they are ill, have a stroke, cancer, heart disease you name it. While I don't dwell on it, we all die, I just try to make something out of each day. I see it happen close up. You take granny good cookie to the hospital, you talk to her on the way in, her life all of the little things, and a week or so later you find out that she passed.
I think I'm glad I talked to her instead of just getting busy with the paperwork. It's part of the job that is all too easily forgotten about.
Unfortunately, we had 2 calls yesterday for PNBs, cpr in progress. Even though we tried everything we could do it wasn't the outcome we wanted, 1 was 50, the other was 67. Too young. You just don't know when it is your time.
Some people are content to just sit and do nothing, others are not physically able to do much, but I see people outside with a walker, in a wheelchair making the most out of their day.
Financial stability doesn't hurt either, so hopefully you have at least something started, or it is really time to have a plan.
A good financial planner can help you out if you so desire.

Im not sure but I have came up with another idea. Im trying to make a life now that I enjoy so much I wouldn't want to retire from it... I think people look at happy as an outcome they can get, like a car or a house. Sure getting a new car makes me happy and a new house. But what's the point if what you did to get the house didn't make you happy? In that same way the house will never be happiness that can last. I think the secret is enjoy life, not the things you can get from it.

Every retiree I’ve met works a bullshit easy job just to kill time. Get a bottom-of-the-barrel job like food service

You're gonna have more time on your hands, and you're gonna want to have fun now that you have the time. Try to save enough money to do it. You don't need a fortune, just enough to go out on the weekends with your friends without worrying about the pennies.

And take care of your health. Keep active. Eat right. If you are healthy, you're gonna love it.

And dance.

I haven't figured it out yet... and I'm close. I want to reduce my hours at 62 and fully retire at 65.
