How good are you at managing uncomfortable situations?

Usually good. Today I had to yell at two grown women to stop calling each other whores. I have zero context and no understanding of what happened to these two but we log into our conference call, and they were going at each other's throats.

I tried to say excuse me... we need to start the meeting and you two can take this offline if necessary.

Then I hear... NO... Noooooo. YOU'RE THE WHORE...

So instead of yelling over them I shared my screen in WebEx and put up a picture of a dumpster fire and a group of people just watching it off on the side while eating popcorn...

This went on for a few minutes and then I just booted the both of them off the call manually.

To break the ice, after they're both removed from the conference call, I say...

Well that is the HR video of how not to treat each other in the workplace... what questions do you have?

I got everyone to laugh and I just said fuck it. This call is shot. We'll pick this up later tomorrow. There's no redeeming this. lol.

I don't really get uncomfortable. The other person might, LOL. I am extremely blunt, direct and confrontational. I will let you know, first time, every time, when you cross a boundary of mine. I don't care who you are. I probably don't need you to like me if you're dumb enough to violate reasonable boundaries. Social etiquette and good manners end for me when your assholery begins. I will go there. I will cause a scene. And we can take it as far as you're willing to go. We don't need to cross paths again in the future unless we can come to a mutually satisfactory resolution. There managed.

I've been in so many, that I'm desensitized to them. Lotta strange people that I've been acquainted with. A lot of things have been said that have made everyone in those scenarios uncomfortable.

The strange thing is though... it hasn't ever really passed me much, now that I think back on it. I have the mentality where "It is what it is." You just have to accept whatever the situation is or what's been said and deal with it accordingly and to the best of your ability. Not much in life is written in black and white. We all just do our best in any given scenario.

I am seldom phased by situations where many become anxious or embarrassed. I tend to realise the comedy of a situation (sometimes when none exists so I invent it) and laugh it off.
