Depends. Do you mean do you have social justification? Is it legal? In what sense? Legally, outside of some kind of sanctioned fight, it will be illegal basically every single time. Socially, in some settings you can do the same/less to her back, but not more.

Women are special and must be protected. No matter how much some sections of society try to scream for equality or that there are no differences between the sexes, the moment things turn to violence, women are weak things and it's not okay to hurt them.

Yeah you still can’t. You don’t ”beat someone up” because they ”hit” your friend. And I know where you’re trying to go with this and yeah, men ”beating a woman up” is more problematic than a woman hitting a man. For the following reaons: It’s very dangerous. A man can easily kill or permanently damage a woman beating her up and she doesn’t have a realistic chance to defend herself. Women have lower bone density, lower muscle mass, thinner skin all of which makes it easier for her to get injuried by hits. While at the same time not having the strength to fight back or defend herself against a man. You wouldn’t beat a child up because they hit you either, for obvious reasons. It should be equally obvious why the whole thing of ”men shouldn’t hit women” exists. And no, women should definitely not hit a man either but the risk of her causing him serious damage is small and he can just grab her to defend himself. No need to use excess force and beat her up.
