Girls, am I in the right for hitting a male friend?

One of my male friends was drunk at a party we were both at and was getting touchy and made me uncomfortable and scared. I kneed him in the balls when he was grabbing me and pulling me into him. He was really hurt for a long time and i feel bad. How would you react in the situation?
