I have a friend in Kazakhstan and I have really deep feelings for her. She knows how much I like her but says she’s not interested.

However, her actions conflict hugely with this and I just don’t understand what’s going on.

If I don’t send her a message, she will always seek me out.

When walking around the city she happily locks arms with me and holds hands.

The last two nights we slept in the same bed. Nothing “intimate” but she lets me hold her the whole night.

Before we went to sleep we’re in bed binge watching Scrub, I’m gently caressing her back and she lets me kiss her on the forehead.

I asked if she was okay and said a pleasing mmm.

In the past, a relative touched her inappropriately. Her father did hit her.

She says she isn’t interested but it seems that if she lets go she is.

I keep wondering if her past is blocking her from committing. She says no but I do wonder.

We get along extremely well. If you saw us together then you’d think we’re a couple.

There you got your answer. If she is a Muslim, she is in serious trouble with her family, even if that family is still in Kazakhstan. She does not want to disappoint her family by fornicating around with someone that is perhaps not Muslim and that is seen as impure to her family.

You are being a "good man" by being patient and gentle (kudos for that), but a good man must also be good to himself. Do not let your empathy for her trauma become a reason for your own self-neglect.

When a woman tells you straight up "I'm not interested in a romantic relationship", believe her. Even if she's lying, or it's the result of fear due to trauma, just believe her. Then, I strongly suggest you stop feeding her ego by being the equivalent of her teddy bear. This is a one way street with her on the receiving end.

You're being a wind-up doll for affection and companionship with little or no reciprocation. Do the reasons matter if she's emotionally unavailable and mentally against proceeding? No, they don't. This woman is a mess and she'll take you down with her. Find someone who is serious; she's not.

Next time you are in bed rubbing her back just start feeling her up. If she doesn't like it she'll move your hand away, if she does, you can do anything you want to her. It still might not turn into a relationship, but at least you'll be having sex. It does sound like she wants to get laid, but doesn't want to take responsibility for it.
