Why am I this sad about my pastor retiring and moving overseas?

I got up early and caught a taxi to say goodbye to my pastor, who I’ll call Jake. Not his real name. I gave him and his wife some small gifts and a thank you card to Jake. He was such a support during Covid, when I felt lost and alone. I never really spoke to him for years, but it made me feel mildly sad that he’s growing older and retiring and moving to the other side of the world. I feel like Australia is losing one of their best people and it was a comfort knowing he was always there if I wanted to talk to him. Not that I did often.

Sometimes it's harder on the ones left behind when someone leaves our life.

I believe that you have every reason to be sad that you will no longer see him again. It's so final. Gone off into the sunset never to be scene by your eyes again. That sounds pretty sad to me.

Maybe you are wishing now that you had spent more time with him and now it's too late.

He sounds like a very nice and caring man. You're lucky to have had him in your life and was supportive of you during a vulnerable time in your life but he comforted you during that time and now that won't ever happen again.

Maybe you can still stay in contact with him and call him every once in a while?

I feel your pain it took me some time to find the pastor that I like of course Google voice to text can't spell the proper thing so I understand maybe they do podcasts that you should listen to
