Do you get awkward about shared changing rooms and showers at swimming pools?

At my work, theyre talking of revamping it all to have individual cubicles (I think the US call them stalls) but I think its a waste of money and time to be honest

In the US, puritanism still holds more influence than we like to admit. If you don’t know what that is, it’s a denomination of extreme protestantism that denounces any and all forms of sexual pleasure, including looking at a naked body that may or may not be your own. They don’t really approve of sex ever outside of procreation. I’m also pretty sure puritanism is what inspired the original cult of Kellogg (yes, the same guy who made the corn flake cereal) to encourage circumcision on male babies to, and I shit you not, stop them from masturbating. It’s a really weird history over here, and undoubtedly influenced whatever’s going on in your work, especially now that the US is facing an economic crisis because of this war. Whenever money’s tight, American society tends to focus on what’s “safe” so they turn to conservatism, which includes puritanism’s influence. It’s a noted phenomena called “the hemline index” where the better a society is doing financially, the higher the hemlines are for skirts as women are encouraged not to dress modestly in a society that’s doing well and encourages free thinking. Just some fun facts for ya.

When I was in 7th and 8th grade, showers were required after gym. It was very awkward at first but we all got used to it after a short time. In high school, we had 10 minutes after gym to take a shower but it wasn't mandatory. Just about all of us girls took one, trying not to get our hair too wet lol I liked taking one! By then there was nothing awkward about it. What's funny, is the Phy Ed teachers would get complaints by other teachers, because the boys would go to class all stinky 😂 They were actually talking about making showers mandatory.

I don't do public pools 🥲 I don't even have my own. And I don't even beach ⛱️ 🏖️ lol  I guess I just don't dedicate much to - activities

I did when I was younger. Now they don’t really bother me, but I have been in some with individuals shower stalls which is nice.

Shared showers are fine, but I wouldn't say I'm fully at ease, a slight part of me pretends feeling at ease, the other part is chill about it

@ellieeexo Individual cubicles would allow total privacy with one room instead of two. However, if not for my disgusting parts, I would not have a problem with an open changing room and shower.

I would come already dressed in swim trunks and I would leave in swim trunks. I’m not gonna shower with other people or change in front of them
