Why do some women seem to be attracted to toxic relationships?

Today I was sitting in a charity dinner, and I had 5 girls sitting around me (5 girls, 3guys)
I am not shy but hard time fitting in as non of there topics I can add to it.
But then they started complaining about how bad there boyfriends are, and how toxic they are. And what not.
After some Inputs from them topic shifted what do you girls do, then 2 of them said have fight on a stupid topic.
And other 2 said just fight him for no reason, just to push him off the edge and wait for them to console or plead guilty.
I only understood that they are equally toxic to there partners.
1 was only saying he is too nice but toxic as in have some restrictions, and those restrictions are only for her own safety etc.
I don't any experience in relationships so I don't know.
But please explain why these things happen

If i had to guess i would first ask about their ages. Maybe they are teens who are easily infuenced by trends. ㅤ

Toxic isn't really a significant word since everyone can stuff what they want in that pie and call the end result: British cuisine.

It's a really annoying word to use because it hides what it wants to mean, in favour of something we vaguely but falsely agree upon because we assumed we knew what it was about. So instead of deeming things toxic, I'd like to see what it means for you, for these girls and then for each people using it
