Are men generally more rational and less emotional than women?

Obviously, just as there are plenty of short men and tall women, there are plenty of logical women and highly emotional men. However, as a generality, would you agree than men are more rational and logical than women?

I don't think it's that simple.

People often talk about being rational and emotional as if they're opposites, but I've never really seen it that way.

Some of the most logical people I know are also deeply emotional, they just don't let those emotions make every decision for them.

I wouldn't be surprised if men and women differ on average in certain traits, but averages only tell you something about groups.

They don't tell you much about any one person.

That's why I've never found statements like men are more rational or women are more emotional very helpful on their own.

To me, good judgement isn't about feeling less.
It's about knowing when your feelings are useful and when they're getting in the way.

I've met people of both sexes who do that well, and plenty who don't.

Yes. But women will not see it that way because they get emotional to the question. See how that works? They view emotion as a logical response to something. And i'm not saying they need to be devoid of emotion to be logical. I'm simply saying they need the ability to shelve their emotions from time to time. And women have a hard time doing that because so much of their everyday thinking is filtered through that. This is why in general women historically have been the gender that raises the offspring and nurtures. Because in general their heightened sesitivity to feelings allows them to identify a child who's ailing or in distress.

Both genders have their strengths and welnesses. And this is why we're good compliments to eachother when it all works. But because we think so radically different, when it doesn't work it's like oil and water.😆

It is more than a generality. Even women who are very logical in their field revert to emotional reasoning once the they leave work. Being logical at work doesn't count.

If you've spent any time here, you know men can be just as irrational and as easily triggered as women. In some cases even more so. However out in the real world it appears to be very equal.

Nah, most men don't even know what they are feeling or why. Rationalization is heavily fueled by emotion and a lot of guys are proud that they don't know that.

I don't know about that. I feel like we are just as emotional in a different way. Men just express it in the form of anger more.

Women tend to be less emotional. They are more cold calculating and a lot more logic than men.
