I have 2 and that's enough for us. One boy, one girl. It's a perfect balance. I was 1 of 3 and it was constantly 2 vs 1 in fights with my brothers. It's not really fair to make them share rooms either. Everyone should have privacy. We have 2 extra rooms and that's one for each of the kids. I really couldn't ask for a better set up.
