Are girls always competing with each other?

so in my civil rights class, I'm writing an essay about womens rights. In it, a woman talks about different meetings of only women to discuss issues, and according to her, one of the benefits of not having men present was that there was no "constant undercurrent of competition that almost all of us feel in the presence of men..."

so if you are hanging out with your girlfriends, and a guy you all know stops to say hi, do you all start suddenly hating each other or something? If your in a relationship do you still get these feelings naturally?

it's not even conscious with women a lot of the time but yeah kinda. I hear my daughter and her friends talk about a guy they just see at lunch and if they all find him attractive even if they have boyfriends and are happy I still hear "He's so hot" "I know right...but don't forget I thought he was hot first!" "Imma laugh if me and so and so break up and he likes me" "whatever!" LOL he's not even an option and they compete about him even in a light hearted way... so yeah lol

you don't even want to begin to understand what girls are like in this area it's ugly I promise you even between friends it can be ugly even if it's not said it's there...

Lol, no. My girlfriends and I like hanging out with each other, we enjoy each others' company and get along pretty well, so there's no way a guy making a simple comment or even joining us in our conversation would have us hating each other.

I think most of us do get a bit competitive at times though, and that's true for guys as well. A friend of mine used to go to an all boys high school, and he was telling me a similar thing about there not being an undercurrent of competition there, in this case among guys. He felt the whole dynamic of their interactions changed without girls present.

No no... If we like a guy we want to be prettier to him than any other girl in the world but that doesn't mean we're competing with every girl we know for him as others may not be interested in him. I think girls in general compete amongst each other in their head because we're wired that way. if we see a pretty girl we want to feel prettier than her or skinnier or whatever. Society maybe raised us this way. Also its a competitive streak maybe? I know I compete in my head to feel better about myself.

Lol this happened to me the other day. I said hi to one girl standing by the doorway and then I went to go sit down. A few minutes later, another girl I know sat next to me and we had a lively conversation, and from the corner of my eye, I saw the other girl looking at us talking. 2 minutes later she joined us and it was so awkward because you could tell the 2nd girl was uncomfortable with the 1st girl joining us. She said something like "You know him"? and I had to change the mood of the convo but it was hard because the 2nd girl had a scowl on her face the whole time. Boohoo!

That's funny, and true. Sheesh, watch the jealousy fly if you're dating more than one girl and you mention it to each of them. My god, they get jealous.

I went to a movie with 2 girls as 'just friends'. They hardly spoke to each other, and one of the girls got shy and defensive. She didn't like it.

I think girls just naturally compete against each other. For example I know when my roommate decides she'll dress up a little and put some more make up on, I'll dress up too and put some make up on so at least I can be on the same 'presentable' level as her. People say that girls usually dress up for mostly themselves, then other girls, and lastly guys, and I think this is very true. If I were to go out with a bunch of my girlfriends I would probably try to look a little better than them just for self confidence. Twisted maybe, but only natural.

Yes but no… we dnt start hating each other but we do tend to be competitive for that boys attention…so say there are three friends and a guy walks up. Are radar is turned on and you can quickly tell which girl is overpowering the others and getting the attention, which is trying to get there, and the one who is either pushed off to the side by the other two or just gives up and doesn't try(me sadly). And yes even if a girl is in a relationship the competition is still there (sometimes even when the boyfriend is in thr presence) but sometimes there's those girls who are really committed and won't even consider doing so because of their current relationship!

Yeah I would say that's about right. But your last paragraph is not accurate. If you're friends with a girl and some guy says hi the other girl might be thinking something but she probably won't say it. I mean "hi" is not that big of a deal. I always feel like girls are in competition with each other especially when males are present. But now I'm just kind of like f*** it, if she' s hot she's hot I'm not going to hate.

I never compete with my girlfriends but if there was another girl yea I would compete I'm not afraid of a little challenge...But I think its just the natural nature of girls
