Does he like me or am I overthinking it?

hes popular, I'm not. he stares at me all the time. his friends dont, so if he likes me, he hasn't told them. do all guys tell their friends? but anyways, first time he talked to me was in p.e class, and I didn't say anything back because I was in awe that he was talking to me. and he was really high. he made fun of me one time. I was dribbling the ball in basketball and I fell over, he was like "dude she looked like a penguin" to his friend. and another time he was talking to his friend and they both looked over at me (obviously talking about me), he was kind of smirking while his friend had a complete straight face. almost like he was trying to figure me out. but anyways this guy ALWAYS stares at me, and he only ever stares at me and this one other girl who he hooked up with a month ago. but he doesn't talk to me, ever. he talks to all these other girls (never really flirts) but not me. the girl that he hooked up with was two years younger than him (we're all in high school) and when I got to the party I already saw them sitting together on the couch talking. he wasn't making moves, so either he is just a nice guy or he sincerely likes her. but at midnight they hooked up . it was new years eve. we were on a school trip the other day (skiing) and I moved in front of him at one point (I didn't know he was right behind me) and he almost crashed into me. he skiied past me and kind of was like "whoa" and had this smile/laughing face on. its not a big deal at my school for the most popular guy to date someone who isn't (and I'm not that unpopular, I get invited to parties but not all of them), everyone does it. anyways, knowing that he stares at me, doesn't talk to me, and the other two things...does he like me? I look at him too..obvioulsy. but me and my friends always notice that he stares at me.

You're over-thinking it for sure. He may like you, but it doesn't seem like there's that much contact between you guys other than eye contact. Not all guys will tell their friends about the girl they like especially if the girl isn't in the "in crowd" because they could get teased about it. In your situation, I'd just try to be friendly with him as much as possible. Because you seem to have different groups of friends that might be hard, but try your best. Staring can sometimes indicate interest, but nothing can be done if you two are always a distance apart.

Well I mean at the very least it sounds like he's intrigued by you, but if he's as popular as you're saying, you might have to play hard to get with him to an extent. I'd try talking to him once and then maybe backing off to see if he starts taking the initiative more...there's no real exact science for it though. Just trust your intuition-if you really believe he likes you, then he probably does.
