Girls - Do you have a backup boyfriend?

It seems like a lot of girls who break up with a guy will immediately start dating another guy right after. So do you have a guy who you are talking to just in case things don't work out with your current boyfriend?

I've done it in the past, but will never do it again. It makes you feel guilty, and terrible, and it doesn't set up your new relationship to be a good relationship!

I dated a great guy for 3 years, but we were really young, and I started to feel like I needed to experience more before settling down, but I didn't want to break up with him either because I loved him. Around the time I was having those thoughts I met a guy at the restaurant that I worked at, and decided that I liked him.. so I left my Boyfriend for the new guy within a week. I then dated THAT guy for 3 years, but he ended up being physically abusive.. and treated me terribly.. which pushed me away, and made me want to leave him.. but, we lived together.. and I didn't know how. I met a guy while out at the bar with my friends, and ended up leaving my (abusive) boyfriend to date the new guy... things were good for a while, but then I realized I was just lining up "rebounds", and never giving myself the chance to grow, and have a GOOD relationship!

I stayed (purposefully) single for 8 months after leaving the last guy, and just started dating someone new about a month ago, and this is by far the most fulfilling relationship that I have been in ever.. mostly, I think, because he wasn't a "backup boyfriend"..

I don't have a backup boyfriend per se, but if my current relationship doesn't work out I know who's interested in me. But I'm not talking to him like pre-preparing to set him up to date as soon as things don't work out.

btw I've seen both genders do this

I don't even have a first boyfriend. But if I did, I highly doubt I'll have a backup one.

LOL good question. I've never even thought about this before. I'd never have a backup girlfriend but I can understand why people would for that emotional security "just in case" although it's kind of crappy to lead someone on.

If I was in a relationship, I wouldn't have a backup boyfriend.. but I would be aware of who wanted to be with me...

Not preparing for my relationship to get bad. But more so, talking to these men. Developing feelings and knowing that if things went wrong they would want me.
