Thank you everyone for you input. Last night I decided to take some action and asked a buddy of his if he was single so I could go after him without reservations. Well, it turns out he is in a long-term relationship. He wasn't shy, he was interested but hesitant.

I'm not and idiot. I didn't date much, then was married for a long time. Flirting seems less easy to read now. I would expect a guy who was touching/enjoying being touched to move things forward, but he isn't - he seems to be increasingly nervous.

I think you should keep the touching thing aside for now, cos you want to get to know the person because he will get more nervous. This guy doesn't know how to handle the situaltion because he is simply not programmed to make the next steps. So you should ask him questions to get him to talk so you can find out if he is your type.

His personality is like that, some people don't talk much, some introverts generally talk to you normally when they know you well. He is just a shy guy
