Why does he always sit right behind me in class?

Because he likes you, but lacks confidence that you feel the same, or will like seeing him like you. OR - he knows You like him, and though he finds you attractive, doesn't want to start anything.

Most people have a certain place they like to sit in class. I know that I do. In most of my classes I usually sit in the same place every class.

It may just be his favorite spot. If he never says a word to you I wouldn't look too much into it.
