Is it normal for a girl to "shy away" from touching you?

I was having such a great conversation/playful argument with this girl. She was making eye contact, giggling and smiling at me the whole time. We know each other and we know how to give each other a hard time but it was great and the way she looked at me, I knew there was something there.

So we were teasing and arguing and then she said (as part of the argument) "im gonna tell you something and you better listen" and her hand reached across to where mine was, but she didn't make contact but she stopped close. I wonder if she got shy or what? She usually flinches if I try to get close but hers was quite a reach all the way across but stopped, what happened?

Hmmm, this is a tough one considering I don't know either of you and so can't predict what she was gonna do. She told you to listen... so did she say anything or did it end there? Sorry but more information is needed before I can provide a reliable answer. Although, just from what you've told me (her flinching when you get close) would guess she either has issues with intimacy (& allowing people to get close) or she's just confused how she feels about you & not sure how far she wants to take things. YES, it is possible for a girl to shy away from touching a guy. As much as it is for a guy to shy aways from touching a girl. Usually this only happens when the toucher isn't sure how the touchee will react to the touch, lol. Its that fear of rejection that stops all of us. If I were you, I would ask her what she was going to do and drop some hints that you're as interested in her as might be in you. Doing so could be the ice breaker that gives her enough courage to finally DO IT! ;) Hope this helps.

Yes, its normal I am extremely shy and old fashion. The guy has to make the first move. I mean I don't have a problem with hugging or holding a guys hand, but if they want more than that they have to make the first move. And I'm kind of scarry/protective so depending on the guy I might act playful and push his hand off giggl and say boy stop. But if I'm feeling the guy and he goes for it, it just happens and I swear it's just like a fantasy. It feels so good I just go into a duhhh moment where I can't think clearly. It's between omg please don't stop, and omg my god please don't leave a hickey.

Basically what I'm saying is she knows you enough, just go for it when the moment is right.

Well, that's not really "shying" away. That's just stopping her hand next to yours. But if she USUALLY shies away from you, and she made a small gesture like this on her own, something is definitely going on. Just be patient; I really think she likes you :) If she makes more small gestures like this, you can make small moves in too; just keep it small and simple. It almost seems like she wanted to touch your hand, but was too shy; if this is this case, be extra gentle about what you're doing and just ease into little shoulder nudges or something. Good luck!

She's not sure whether touching you is OK or not - since she doesn't know whether you like her back. And I don't know, I don't really like being touched either... I don't even like hugs, or even friends touching me without asking. She might just be easily startled.
