Apt help! My apartment gets ZERO SUNLIGHT. Is there anything I can do to make it not so depressing?

I just moved into this place (kinda didn't have a choice),but it gets no sunlight.My two windows face a courtyard and another building which means no sunlight ever hits my windows.Most of the time,I can't even tell what the weather is like outside,or if the sun is even up.I hate this so much!I'm trying to do something to my apartment so I won't hate it as much,but do you have any suggestions?

My apt is super tiny as it is,and not being able to at least tell what the weather is like,or if the sun is out is super obnoxious.(Please don't tell me to move,that is not an option.)I need to figure out how to enjoy this place while I'm here.So,do you have any suggestions?Of how to make this situation less depressing?

You can buy a SAD light. It's supposed to emulate natural sunlight. For example, link

Other than that, I would suggest laying out your space so that it looks light and airy. Have a few light-colored pieces of furniture that are sized proportionately to the apartment. As far as accessories you can place a couple of candles, a fake plant, a large poster or piece of art that you like, and/or some brightly-colored accent pillows. If you don't want a SAD light, make sure you have plenty of other lighting that uses incandescent or full-spectrum light bulbs to get the natural sunlight effect.

If you are allowed to paint then I would paint the walls a nice warm color. If you can't paint buy some colorful pillows for the couch and get a blanket. Buy some bright colorf fake decorative flowers or decorative pieces that are small and won't take a lot of room but will add that splash of color. I agree with the SAD light I hear they help.

A new slap of paint, preferably a warm color it will make your place look bigger. If your not allowed to paint, then put wall paper. Also some nice plants will give it a nice feeling, they don't even have to be real if your afraid you can't take care of them.

Also try to rearrange your furniture to maximize space and get rid of big sofa's.

Get a painting or two against the wall, if you can't afford a painting get a poster that looks like one, I have a picasso poster, only cost me 3 bucks.

Get some bright lighting and some mirrors. Decorate with light colors. Get a wireless weather station that tells you the outside conditions and a forecast. Check out IKEA with Anonymous User above.
