For young men: the allure of violence

I experienced violence at a very young age, and most teenagers will experience some form of violence throughout the maturation stage, boys and girls. But I think you can agree with me when I say that violence comes much more naturally for boys. In my adolescent years I was I got beat up regularly, I'm sure some of you have had similar experiences. Into my teenagers years nothing was so alluring and simultaneously frightening then the prospect of violence. Always I would feel the spike of fear before a fight, but the rush of adrenaline made up for it. I think men specifically are born with a natural urge for violence. This urge can be fostered in three ways that you will probably see throughout your life.

It can be neglected. this is the kid that doesn't stand up for himself, lets himself be pushed around or
bullied.

It can be nourished. This is the child that does not pick fights, but is ready if something were to go down. They will usually use violence only when reason fails them

It can be let out of hand. We all know these types. Usually they use constant threats of violence, or are quick to pick a fight, verbally or physically.

Throughout my life, I have done all three forms of control over my urges, and I have come to the conclusion that sometimes violence is necessary.

Somewhere along the evolutionary line, a seed was planted in every human, that allows them the capacity or even urge for violence. This can be seen as young boys wrestle or play soldier as an innate part of the male psyche. This is not necessarily a bad thing.
These urges can be constructive and beneficial to development if dealt with properly, and hazardous if locked away or shunned.

The allure of battle need not be expressed in the form of actual combat. There are many battles one can uptake to steep the want for violence. As of now, many young boys see violence as the go-to solution instead of the last resort.
The way it is dealt with in society today only exasperates the situation further, and the solution must start at the individual level.

Violence is a part of being human, and I think much deeper on the male side. And like everything in life, it can be handled positively and negatively. The excitement violence brings may never go away, or may lose its prospective allure all together, but it must be dealt with. Do not shit away your urges, feed them, but only when they are tempered by will and the compass to do what is right.
