What does it mean when a guy calls you his best friend?

Been seeing this guy every week for 4 months, but we've only been hooking up and we are obviously getting to know eachother along the way. Anyways if when we talk (whenever we see eachother we have a good conversation) I'm talking about my friends he says "I thought I was your best friend". I asked him back if that means I'm his best friend too, and he says yes, "we're best friends"

What does he mean by that?

This same thing happened to me a couple years back. We were hooking up, he'd tell me we were best friends, he'd wanna hang out, etc. Turns out, I had gotten way too attached and he didn't. Lol we were exactly what he said... best friends, nothing more.

I'm not sure where you're going with this question but my advice to you is if he's saying he is just your friend, don't get attached or get caught up in everything and lose sight of "what is". Stay true to yourself, but keep your guard up.

In my case it would mean something. I'm not someone who'll attach to people from 1 day to another but if I call you my best friend you have a big place in my heart and you can count on me. Also in difficult times.
