What does it mean if someone says: You're a breath of fresh air?

I mean, I know it's a compliment but what exactly does it mean? A guy told me that, but he said he couldn't date me even though he wanted to.

its kinda like, ur a pleasure to be with, a pleasure to hear from, to talk to.
just imagine how u feel when u inhale a breath of fresh air:) u give a guy that feeling.

maybe he couldn't date u because of his own circumstances.

You make him feel good inside, refreshing, wonderful. You take him off the normal path of everyday life, a detour from the hum drum.

It means that you're different from people he usually talks to, although I don't see many reasons as to why someone 'wants to date someone but can't'.
