When a guy ignores you but glances from afar?

This is not a random guy. Weeks ago, he used to stare at me, glance, smile, be close to me but not too much. As I didn't answer his interest because I believed he was making fun of me, he progressively stopped smiling, staring and only glances at me from afar, ignoring me when he walks past.
I don't understand why he glances from far but ignores me most of the time.
Today, I was waiting at the door of my class with friends and there were quite a lot of people in the corridor. Then, the guy arrived, walking past us. As there were a lot of people, he was close to us and only brushes up against me a little, whereas he almost pushes my friend.
What does all that mean?

He definitely just lost interest but i don't like how quickly people move these days really... they expect you to be all head over heels in love with them asap but it takes time, i don't think people give you enough of a chance, how can you like him when you don't really know him?

The brush up means he's trying to get by, lol. But he liked you, showed you signs that he was interested, and you didn't send him any signs back. He lost interest. Try doing exactly what he was doing to you. Make eye contact and smile, you'll win him over.

Probably thinks he's out of sight out of mind when he's "glancing from afar." Ignores you when he's up close because he's too shy to actually talk to you...
