Guy gives up his seat on the bus for women?

Do you see this as gentlemanly or do you think it's tacky? Assume that he's not doing it to try and hit on her/spark some conversation, just the sort of thing he feels he is supposed to do in terms of manners.

I'm 19 and would never expect a guy to get up for me.
All people should give it up for a disabled person, old, or maybe holding a baby or something.

I've seen young gals put their purse on the seat next to them so nobody else can have a seat.

It's nice but I would feel awkward if it happens, almost like I didn't have to do anything and got there late but still get a seat at the expense of another. I probably wouldn't but if I did , I would ask him if he wAnts it back 100times. And I would probably just say I'm fine and continue standing

Unless she was old or pregnant or carrying a child or in any other less fit to stand, I'd think it's weird.
I just don't really see the point. Yes women are weaker but we can stand a few minutes in the bus. It used to be tradition to do that, but it's not anymore so it's just kinda odd

I think it's very nice of him and appreciate the gesture, but he really doesn't have to do that. Personally, I give my seat up to the elderly, disabled, pregnant ladies, men/women with small children, etc.

Personally, I wouldn't give my seat up to a woman, unless she's pregnant, elderly, disabled, injured, my mother, or my gf. Other than that, they can use the exercise.

If I'm sitting and I see a woman, elderly or child standing, I will always offer my seat. Girls decline often but women usually comment on my "chivalrous deed" and accept the seat. It's weird because when the girl declines, I get a vibe that people around me are thinking "DENIED". Lol oh well.

I'd rather a guy not try to give up his seat for me just because I'm female.
I can stand just fine I'd rather him give it to someone who needs it or sit in it himself.
I've given my seat to old people, people who have a lot of shit to carry, pregnant people, and parents with their children.

That is very kind, actually! But here in Minnesota, men don't act like men. I ride the bus (have to catch one now actually).. and it could be a buss full of men, and let a woman get on, NONE offer their seat. There were times where I offered mine to a crippled whilst bummy looking men just had their head turned the other way.

Total gentlemen, it's the same thing as anyone standing up to let a child, pregnant woman, someone hurt/injured, or elderly person sit done, it's just thought of as respectful and kind, so when a guy lets a woman sit I don't think it's tacky, I think it's great

If it is an old woman, it is very respectful and gentleman behavior. If it is a pregnant or sick woman, again the same. If it is around the same age, i can't find any explanation cuz in that case i dont think men should give their seat away. Only explanation is positive discrimination and being kind and gentleman. Love that man!

Its a nice thing to do for anyone in general, not just women but I think chivalry (as we use the term today) has value and makes society better off. I would even go as far as to say that a person who thinks that is tacky is hapless, and probably cynical.

It's just being polite. Although I prefer to be treated equally and the only reason I want someone to give up their seat to me is when I'm heavily pregnant.

But recently I went on a train with my boyfriend which was packed and could only manage to find one seat, he sat down and let me sit on his lap. Couldn't help that I felt like... well people were actually staring.

That's part of being a man. Sometimes you have to swallow your pride. I was raised to treat women right, not just as equals. Sure, the influx of these men shaming videos is disheartening but I choose to stay on the side lines. A woman has never given up a seat for me neither but I don't expect them to nor do I want them to.

I was raised to treat women right too and I do. if a woman needs to see I always give her my seat and if she is getting into a car I always hold the door open for her. but when I hear a woman say she doesn't want to be treated different and she wants to be treated like he would treat another man I don't understand it

I've done it on nights after class when the bus really jammed packed, especially if a child were involved. I've even done it for elderly guys. Just me being nice, nothing more than that.
