What does it mean when a guy asks for a hug?

I've known this guy for a couple of months now, but we only recently started talking. I've seen him a couple of times and we've talked maybe like 4 or 5 times, but it wasn't a super long chat, more like a little playful banter or we would be in a group and just, you know, talking.

- He's complimented me several times on my acting abilities and on my singing.
- He even told my mom that I was an amazing actress. He literally went to her and asked if she was my mother and when she said yes he told her that I was a good actress.

Today I hugged a friend and he was walking over and I was about to leave but then he was like "What? I don't get a hug?" I said "Oh, sorry," and smiled. I went over to hug him and he was lie "Nope, too late now." We both laughed and I hugged him goodbye, but I told him that I didn't even have his number. He gave it to me and then I left.

What does it mean? Is he just being nice or is it more? I don't want to jump to conclusions.
