Meaning behind someone playing with their wedding ring?

I don't know much about body language but a gesture that always annoys me is people who play around with their wedding ring. Not sure why but it's just something that makes me feel very uncomfortable when I see people do it, especially men. I'm currently studying at university and twice I have caught one of my lecturers playing around with his wedding ring whilst he was having a conversation with me. He mostly just keeps turning it and at one point he took it off halfway and then put it back on. Hopefully I'm not reading too much into it but just curious to see what other people think of this. I would also like to know if this annoys anyone else or if it's just me.

This is just my personal opinion, but it seems that you are jealous/envious of people in committed relationships.
I do that all the time, in fact, I was twisting my ring and sliding it up and down my finger before I even begun to read the question! For me, and I'm assuming for most others, we simply do this out of habit. I highly doubt he ment anything by it; seems you are reading into this situation.

It's not really a jealousy thing, I find it more uncomfortable. I generally find people who fidget a lot annoying anyway but for some unknown reason it really gets me even more uncomfortable when people play with their wedding rings. Thanks for your input though.

The question is, does he do this regularly, and in front of other people (unattractive people, etc.)? If not, the behavior probably indicates attraction to you. If he does this all of the time, it's probably just an ordinary fidget. Try to observe him regularly to see.

Some people just have to fidget around with things when they talk to people. I do it a lot when I'm nervous, then again I don't have a wedding ring to do it with so I usually use my phone or pen.
