Me and this guy have banter, does this mean he likes me?

We started talking to each other last year at school. We have never had one conversation without any banter, whatsoever. My friend said he does it because he likes me. I didn't believe her, but I am starting to and I hate it. The other day we agreed on a day with no insults... We failed miserably. I didn't like treating him normally and he said the same to me. Tried again today and came out with the same results. I am also in a band and he insists coming to our practices even though the answer is always no. Each time I am with my friends but not talking, if I look around and I see him pretty much doing the same, so he usually would make his way over to me and my friends. Then begins speaking to all of us but then just to me which then results in our banter. At first it was just one friend, but now it is the majority of them saying he likes me. I kind of like him, so I don't know if it just false hope.

It sounds like he might like you. Sometimes teasing is a sign that a guy is interested in you. I would keep talking to him and maybe suggest hanging out sometime if you are interested in him. You can even try flirting a little and see how he responds.
