Why do some guys do this?

Why do guys mumble when they talk to you? I had accidentally drop something on the floor when I was in school. And he was sitting next to me and he picked it up and gave it to me. I said "thank you" and he mumbled to me your welcome. And he's not the first guys that does. And that's not the only thing that guys do. Like why do some guys not look you in the eye?

Because I'm shy, and it can be difficult to muster up a good not overly boisterous "you're welcome" especially if I find her attractive. It may be difficult for me to get the nerve to say something, but when I do it I'm sincere (unless I'm kidding =Þ) I'd hope that my action of retrieving the item for her would show that I care enough to want to help even if I have to mutter a you're welcome. Well anyways, I hope this answers your question. And hope you don't take shy/quiet guys/people the wrong way.

I mumble to ignore the obvious or I'm too tired to pronounce a common response to the situation. I never look at a woman's eyes because then they can tell when I'm lying.

I know that you probably think that what they are doing is rude, but what they are really doing is thinking while talking to you. You ladies are great at doing several things at one time, but not good at doing just one thing at one time. We guys are good at one thing at a time, but not good at several things at one time. I think he means they are nervous or impressed when talking to you, therefore requiring thinking while doing another thing at once (returning your book), which he says men are not good at. I read his comment to say if they mumble in that situation then they are flustered by your presence and direct interaction. :)

Some guys mumble. Or maybe he isn't very social and was just being nice. He didn't expect anything to come out of the favor. I wouldn't necessarily look you in the eyes in that situation. It's kind of routine for me to help someone out like that and just go on about my day.

Cause they are shy and nervous. Especially the more attractive you are the more nervous they will get. :)
