Fuck buddy confusing behavior?

So me and this guy I know have this casual fuck buddy thing going on. The sex is great, but what confuses me a lot is his behavior. Like both before and after he does a bit of cuddling, which is nice, but surprised me a bit the first time he did it, and is also so nice and personable, talks to me about all sorts of things... but like outside of his house (he lives alone so that's where we hook up) he's still friendly, but not overly so. Like he doesn't talk my ear off, doesn't seem to relax as much. And even though everyone knows we're fucking, he seems embarrassed about it. Is this normal? I've never been in a sex only relationship, so I wasn't sure.

I'll never understand a girl friends with benefits . How do you want to be treated? Just a fuck & leave? Isn't conversation & company a plus?
I once went to a wedding with a friends with benefits & she got mad at me for treating her like a gf. How did she want me to treat her in front of people especially friends & family?

Well, no, I mean like the in public part. I'm not wanting or expecting hand holding, kissing couple stuff, but something more than an awkward hi would be nice, especially when we're alone and he's so personable. I mean, if we were going to a function together like in your sitch I'd be agreeable to any of that, I wouldn't be mad. And no, a wham bam thank u ma'am isn't really preferred, lol, but its the difference between us alone and us in public that confuses me. The whole fuck buddy thing evolved from a drunken one night stand.

No hand holding or real affection rather then being polite.
So he talks after & gets close. That should be OK.
What do you want out in public? You don't want people to get the idea that your FWB's right?
Sounds like he's doing the right things.

Oh, I don't mind if people know, I'm feeling its him that minds, since he's the one that is so weird about it. I'm saying I'm not expecting couple stuff, but him being all "I barely know this girl" is weird to me, since he's so sweet when we're alone. I mean, we're not a couple. We're both free to sleep with others, though I'm pretty certain he doesn't and I know I don't, I just didn't know if something he initiated (the friends with benefits deal) meant this sort of behavior. He says he doesn't feel anything for me outside of friendship, but its how he talks to me when we are alone that makes me wonder, compared to when we are in public and he treats me like just another customer.

Well I guess he doesn't know how to treat you in public. So the safe route would be to treat you like another customer.
TBH the more time you spend with someone the more you find out you have things in common & grow fond of that person. IF a guy isn't somewhat physically attracted to a girl he wouldn't fuck her regularly. So he's not going to do the wham bam thing he's going to be himself & talk.
I'm sure he's not ashamed of you in public places. He may not know how to act or maybe he doesn't want to make a mistake like I did?

He is the one that started it sleeping with me when we were drunk lol guess it was so good he wanted more, but its the difference between us alone and us in public that confuses me... if he's so embarrassed that all our friends know we sleep together, why does he keep asking/accommodating?
