Why do guys 'check out' girls?

I've been 'checked out,' by gay guys too, which confuses me

Men often don't even realize we are doing it. When we are bored our eyes subconsciously falls on whatever is the most interesting thing in the room. Often for men the most interesting thing in the room is a pretty girl.

Other times we know we are looking, and just enjoy the view. Men seem to be more obvious about checking women out than women are. Most guys don't even think they have ever been checked out more than a few times in their life. We expect women to stare like we do if they are attracted. So a guy that gets checked out all the time by women might assume he is unattractive since he never catches a girl staring.

Guy's are just not as subtle as girls. It's the whole "wow, look at her" thing. She's dressed well, strikingly beautiful, has great hair, has great makeup, etc. It's not always sexual, but it can be. Guys check out girls because they like what they see. For straight or Bi guys that means you are attractive physically. For gay guys it may be more they like your fashion sense what you are wearing, accessories, your hair style etc .
