What does it mean when a guy says I like you a lot?

I was hanging out with my guy friend with whom I'm pretty close too. He told me I was hot and as we were sitting he kept giving me hugs. Then one time he said I really like you a lot. Then later he kissed me on the cheek, but when I asked him why he didn't answer at first then said he does it to all his best friends. I'm kind of confused, was it meant as a friend way or is he hinting at something more?

Oh I see thank you! He actually kept asking me if I would give him a kiss then he said that he was just being funny. He was getting weird, like asking me if I would ever get married. Then asked if I would marry him and when I said maybe I would. He said if I seriously asked you, would you. I understand that it was a joke, but strange. Then he asked if I loved him. He confuses me because he says that he is joking all the time. It's hard to tell if he was being serious or it is all one big joke.

He is so afraid to reveal his feelings and chance being rejected. He hides behind the pretense of "I was just joking." It is not a joke. If he asks again if you will kiss him, don't answer him with words; just kiss him. . . and not on the cheek!
