Why did my ex boyfriend invite me to a family reunion?

My ex boyfriend of 5 years and I broke up about a year ago. We never really lost contact and are "friends with benefits". As much as I know that isn't good, we still hold a great friendship. We hang out and act like nothing, but we are not dating. He still brings me around his parents and I come over at least twice a week. Today he invited me a family reunion to meet his grandparents, aunts, uncles & cousins. Why did he invite me and go through the trouble of introducing me, specially now that we aren't even dating?
