If a guy acts very reserved around a girl? What does that mean?

We were both shy at first but he ended up being really friendly and acted super giddy. After meeting I noticed him looking at me and he tried to get closer to me, sat/ walked next to me. We met up again after awhile and this time around I tried to be more friendly + outgoing. But he ended up being really quiet and serious. With everyone else he was joking and being himself. I thought he looked like he hated me from how tense he was but I haven't done anything wrong to him. He even walked away in the opposite direction like he was nervous to see me when I came over to him and his friends. After that it has just been weird behavior. He also did a double take while walking past me recently. He has friends that are girls and he is fine with other girls he has just met.

Oh wow, seems like you're in the same situation as i am with my guy crush... He's acting like that around me, and when we are with other classmates he becomes more outgoing.. But when we're alone we don't talk to each other, it's just awkward silent and some small talk to fill the air :S but he is nice to me, he hugs me wen he sees me at the university (just like, once a day and if he's anywhere near me). He also likes to poke me in my belly to make me giggle (because i'm really serious, i don't smile as often as i think i should, because this might make me look like a permanent bitch face case LOL). I hope this "acting cold" thing your guy is doing means that he's into you but he's too socially awkward to deal with it to make the first move.(and i also hope that's also my case with my guy crush xD), it just depends on either one of you to talk about the feelings you have for each other so you'll know what's really going on.. And if he rejects you, at least you tried! instead of suffering in silence (and seeing him flirting with other girls that are not you until you get past those feelings) without knowing what could've happened. If he does that, just keep some distance for a while until you get over it and then you can go back to being friends. If he says he also has feelings for you then yaaay for you two! xD Hoping the best for you, and good luck!

Ha. He sounds similar to me. I can be really social and chilled out when Im talking to people I dont have romantic feelings for... but the second I get those feelings I get tense, awkward and can't even think of anything. He probably also wanted to mske sure you knew that he had the ability to take things seriously when he needs to. Its comforting for a girl to see a guy that has both those attributes.
