He keeps bringing up another guy?

My crush, who I'm pretty certain likes me, and I flirt with all the time, in person, over text almost every day etc, always brings up this other guy (we'll call him Bob) we both know, after a slight communication break down where I said I loved him but in a jokey, oh isn't he adorable, way and my crush took it seriously. I've since explained to him that I'm not in love with this guy, and I don't even know if I like him in that way. But we'll be having a conversation over text, and then he'll randomly bring up the other guy, such as when we were talking about Captain America, and suddenly he says "how's Bob?" And he was looking at me funny after we'd finished watching a film, looking at me really intently, and I asked "what?" and he shook his head, smiled and said "nothing". Then immediately said "How's Bob doing?" What is up with this? I mean, I've heard that guys bring up other guys to test your reaction, but my crush brings him up more than my girl friends do (and we talk about boys incessantly). Is he just trying to pair me up with another guy because I'm his best buddy who he wants to be happy? Or is it jealousy?

Also I should mention that our texting slowed down a bit last week, but since he found out I almost went to the cinema alone with another mutual friend (guy), who bailed on me last minute, he's stepped it up again
