Are drunk texts from a guy really sober thoughts?

This guy i was talking to said that he really liked me but we were both going to college soon so it wouldn't work and he didn't want to hurt me. He recently started texting me drunk and kept saying i am the best and i would have been the best girlfriend. He has recently texted me while he has been drunk and im too afraid to ask him about the whole situation bc i get attached easily but he is super sweet. what do i do? im in a complete rut and it is making me upset bc i just got over him and after he said what he said I've just wanted to be with him again like before.

I've been miserable because i don't know what to take from all of it. im confused but i still try and put a smile on my face even after this and knowing we can't be anything i guess. help please! :(

I wouldn't read anything into it until he actually communicates with you while sober and in person.

thats the thing he did when we were talking and since he said he didn't want to hurt me when we go to school again and we still do because we work with each other but he is at some camp thing with his family and he has been telling me to come up when i can't hahah but I don't know. he does talk to me and make an effort.
