What does the phrase " I expect nothing, and yet I'm still let down." mean to you?

This guy I told I liked and not sure how he feels about me so I stopped texting a few weeks ago sent this phrase to me in reply to my "expect nothing & appreciate everything " post. Does this mean anything? Please Help?

Well your title means he didn't ask anything of you that way you couldn't have disappointed him but some how some way you still let him down.

The one in your detail means don't rely on anyone or expect anything to happen but in the case that you do catch a break and someone shows kindness or you have a lucky day don't take it for granted.

Now I don't know which one you wanted me to answer but wither way I'm pretty sure he sent you that message because he liked you or seeked you as a friend and you just left him out to dry.

I wanted to know if he said the I expect nothing and still am let down towards me or just in reply to the post. I don't know if he was directing that comment to me or in general to everything going on. Do you think he might it to me?

Honestly I can't say but if you're into him or just care about him as a friend it wouldn't hurt to message him and ask him how is he doing. Apologize for not speaking to him lately and mention that you saw his post and ask is everything okay.

As for finding out how he feels about you that's a different story one of you to will have to fess up or ask how do you feel about me... But first you need to get your friendship back to where it was :)

First thing I thought when I read that phrase "I expect nothing and I'm still let down" is the TV show Malcolm in the middle, because Dewey said that in one episode when he was celebrating b-day... So, I guess he just remembered that and commented as a connection to your post.. I don't think it has a deeper meaning

It may mean that he didn't want you to stop texting. He clearly mentioned he didn't expect anything, but still he is let down. Obviously he expects some attention, it's not like he expects nothing, but it seems very to the point to me. There's not really much of a hidden meaning in it.
