I would say I agree, my first thought was more into a person having depression or low self esteem who need someone there to lift them up / support them. I know many couple where the man lost his job and his wife stayed and supported him until he was able to get a new one and cure his depression.
For the money things people just need to be careful with their spending and all will be good so it's great, also I think couple that support each other through their lowest have ways more chance to stay together for life and support any other hardship than other.
Perfect opinion as always Ms. Alice 💯
I agree. Though its not meant to excuse shitty behaviour. There's always going to be hard times in a marraige such financial hard times, illness, death of a child etc but you aren't supposed to just walk away when the hard times come.
A neighbour of mine her husband has early dementia and had to go into a home for care, she still sticks by him, visits him every day for hours and takes care of him there. They are both only in their 50s, they lost their daughter about 20 years ago, drunk driver mounted the curb.
Damn that's a sad story. Always happens to the best people
It depends on how you use it. Financially, it makes sense. In terms of any disagreeable behavior, circumstance or condition that you’re actively working on improving, it makes great sense.
Unfortunately, there are millions of women who use the Marilyn Monroe quote in order to justify deplorable behavior that they have no intention of changing. It’s better to remember that the best those women have to offer isn’t that great to begin with.
Perfect answer. Well said.
I would rephrase it. "Sometimes I'm good and sometimes I'm not so good, but it's all me. I'm a package deal and if you pick me, you get all of it. . . so are you in or out?"
Lol sounds more positive for sure

Either financial or emotional: both can cause difficulty for someone. I have a friend who has been suffering emotionally and has been on a rollercoaster for some time.
Since she isn't local, I don't have to deal with her mental health crises. I talk to her on a limited basis.
IF she was in the same town as I am, I don't know how I'd deal with her. I'd have to keep some distance.
I care about her, but she has repeatedly ignored the fact that she needs to take medication all the time. Would she show up at my house? Knock on my door? Call me at all hours? Her low has been ongoing for 8 months.
Her employer has been supportive, but if she has another breakdown, I'm worried she might lose her job. She has an adult son, but they are not close. I do not have money to support her.
I hope she starts taking care of herself. But I have to set boundaries. Her low is too far down for me to get too close. And her illness affects her emotionally, financially, socially, familially.
So, saying someone has to accept a friend, relative when they are addicted, mentally ill , financially destitute, is a mistake. It is unrealistic to expect others who are not mental health professionals to take on such problems.
I wish her the best, and I talk to her to check in. I hope I can see her better. Everyone deserves happiness and stability, but she has to get the help she needs. I can't lead her there.
I agree...
When I met my ex we were both in high-school. But there was a moment when he was struggling financially... and I was right there by his side supporting him and being there for him anyway I could. He ended up becoming an armed guard and then a mechanic.
I feel like you learn so much about people when you are at a low point in your life.
You're a high quality girl. What was the reason it didn't work out between you guys?
Thanks for the compliment 🙂.
I had to end things after 14 years of being together because he had developed a mental illness after 7 years together. I stayed with him for 7 more years because I loved him and wanted to see him get better. Unfortunately he didn't, because he refused to get help. So I ended up having to leave him because things were so bad that my life was in danger staying in the relationship.
Sorry to hear it didn't work out. You've confirmed you're a high quality girl though
I could agree, but I won't because I fucking hate this quote. My mother would use it to justify being a useless drunk.
Yeah I can get behind you there. That's why I clarified I meant more in a financial sense. I agree with you
Financially it depends.
If she's willing to work and pull herself back up, why not?
Either financial or emotional I disagree. If you accept this you are giving that person licence to behave in anyway they like. If the low is anger you are permitting unwarranted extreme anger.
Notably this is a girl phrase. A guy saying this wouldn't get away with it.
Agree , even in a financial sense.. Obviously, I hope to not be taken advantage of if I am supporting him financially..
Low is predictable and high is a variable it's a neither or not thing for me if I am not sure what's the low I am getting into and I don't what crazy shit is in the low better safe then sorry.
Yeah by all means I won't be there in their high that's fair.
I feel like to many people use that statement as an excuse to act shitty, be lazy etc while also acting like they deserve this or that.
That's why I lived with my girlfriend for over a year before I made her my fiancée. I already knew I liked her best, but if she was at her worst we didn't go out on a date. Ditto for her being sick, although I can't really see her when she's sick for another reason.
I agree as far as "low" being tragedy in one's life, such as the idea of a "fair weather friend." But that could also be abused into "you have to put up with my ridiculous behavior in order to enjoy being with me when I choose to be nice."
yes, or like I tell my wife, Love me, love my farts.
This trope is used by abusive people to justify obnoxious behaviour toward others and shouldn't be accepted.
A genuine acceptance of others when in good and bad times is noble but by no means a requirement
Sounds like an excuse to choose to be your worst and expect someone to just deal with it...
100 percent agree.
Agreed.
I disagree. This is called having time apart.
That is cope.
