I highly doubt guys love gals in any way that is genuine sincere and non selfish considering past oppression and seemingly current denial of that oppression. Women weren't educated a lot of the time. (Even today in some places women are shot for trying to get an education.) If you're not educated, it's harder to fight.
Furthermore, women had a lot more on their plate than men did - menstruation, pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding, childcare - than men did, which gave men time to do things like make governments and laws etc.
