Gave him my number, he texted, but does that mean he's interested?

A guy in one of my classes (150+ people) always looked

at me in class for weeks, so after the final class I saw him in the library and as I walked past I dropped a note on the table where he was studying and walked away. It basically said ‘I noticed you and think you’re cute, never saw a chance to talk to you, text me if you want, blah blah…’. He texted me like an hour later telling me that he got my note, what his name was, and that it was a nice surprise. We texted a few times but his replies were really slow, his last text had a question at the end so I replied to his question and asked about his hobbies but he never replied. What happened? I’m really confused. Maybe he just used my number to be polite? But he didn’t make it clear he wasn’t interested or anything, and since it's not like he has to see me round in class now or anything why text me if he just wants to reject me. Should I wait like 3 or 4 days after that text (it’s been 2 days) to text him casually asking how study is going or something?

He seems like a really busy guy btw (why his replies were so slow I guess) and quite shy/quiet, so it's plausible he got busy/sidetracked and forgot to reply? But he hasn't texted me again =S

I guess he things that you just want to text and don't want to meet in the real world. And texting about hobbies is friendly and not flirty. Get yourself out of the friend box before the lid closes and into the flirtly box. You have to escalate it from friendly text. either

a] Flirty text: like ask him if he's dating anyone or ask him if he's heard of anything fun happing this weekend where you could both hang out.

b] Invite him to something that you're going to do anyway,

With [b] I think you should do this with voice, not with text, and ideally face to face. Grab a handful of flyers for something and them one to him (and every other cute guy).

yeah, he probably forgot you. You should text him back with a different question. Maybe he wanted to be more than a friend and he didn't feel like answering questions. You should be direct with him. If he texted you an hour later, he probably was interested in you. If you meet up with him later on in the library, flirt with him and see his reaction. Maybe he has to study and doesn't want to get distracted with any type of fun.

I think this guy might like you. I would say he is just generally busy and I would think that out of everyone you probably have the biggest chance of going out with him, but try not to bother him too much and maybe just send a text saying, "If your busy please just tell me that you are rather then ignoring me and if your not ignoring me and your busy just say and we can talk later rather then me bothering you?" Something along those lines maybe? Good luck :)
