why would the guy who knows you liked him STARE at you from a distance? we have been on good terms after I told him that I liked him but then all of a sudden he avoids me but STARES at me from across the room...

Yes...and maybe he doesn't know how to act on them.

He may be just really shy, and having a hard time finding a way to ask you out, or take the next step. Now that he knows that you like him, that could actually increase the pressure for him if he didn't know what to do before he knew.

He avoids you because he's afraid that if he's around you and he doesn't do the right thing, then you'll think he's not even interested and he'll screw up everything up. So he may just be avoiding you until he can get up the courage to admit his own feelings to you, or at least just ask you out. Yes, I know it's silly...but I bet that's what he's thinking...

And if he stares at you in a room full of hot babes, then he's definitely interested in you. But even if you're the only hot babe in the room, then he's probably still interested in you, but nervous.

Okay this most likely means that he likes you, but he's a little scared or shy to advance. He probably thinks you'll reject him or that you'll think he's weird if he tries.
