What does it mean when a guy says "we'll chat soon"?

I have been talking to this guy for a while now and he has been acting strange for the past 2 days. He doesn't answer me as much. Today I spoke to him and he said he was going out with his friends and he said "we'll chat soon" what does that mean? He usually says later. Is it just semantics?

Hmm...I think when people use the word "soon" they're more likely to mean it...

So for instance, if someone were to say, "we'll chat sometime" or "we'll chat when I get a chance", or even "we'll chat later", it's more likely to be a casual comment that hasn't been given much thought.

But when someone instead says "we'll chat soon", the choice of the word "soon" does seem to imply that they've made a mental note in their head that this is something important. It implies a sense of commitment. Then again...some people make a lot of commitments they don't keep, so you have to take that into consideration.

You're right that this is semantics, and cognitive associations are highly speculative, but this would be my guess.

Depends on the circumstances, but yeah it's probably nothing. If anything he sounds more interested in talking because he is talking about speaking soon rather than just later. He could also be looking for you to speak to him first.

Could be semantics. Does sound like a bit of a blow-off to me or at least not the kind of thing I want to hear from a guy but if you have just started dating, it wouldn't be unusual to hear this and still get to the next date.
