What does it mean when a guy says he cares about you a lot?

One of two things; It's either he likes you as a friend, and therefor, take it at face value - Or he is in love with you, but two shy to say it. If you guys have know each other for years and years, and you are friends, then it's probably the former. if you guys are relatively new together (less than eighteen months, or so), then it's probably the latter.

What's your relationship like? Just casual friends that know each other through other people? or are you friends that hang out without a group of friends around? It also depends how he said it. Like very matter-of-fact-ly, or looking you dead in the eye and saying it all serious. I've said it before like "Sure I care a lot about you - you're my friend", and I've also said it hoping she'd get the hint like "I, uh... I really care about you, you know. You're really important to me". If its just in passing like 'cheer up, kiddo', then I wouldn't suggest you read too much into it. The truth is, Honey, is how it FELT to you at the time. Not what you hope, or want it to have been - just how did it FEEL when you heard him say it. Since I wasn't there, I'd say trust you're gut.
