When a guy says I just want you to be happy?

When I say we shouldn't see each other anymore after discovering he found a girlfriend and seems pretty damn happy. He says' I just want you to be happy, even if you're a waitress for the rest of your life? But then he respects my decision. First, Im in college and thats a side job. SO he insulted me and was that even necessary? he knows i struggled finding an internship at a company (And I do have one now! so he can screw himself.) .

After I told him Im visiting my hometown for a few weeks (other side of the country) and this would be the longest time of us not speaking as we have spoken every week 2-3 times for a year and a half now. And after he says I want you to be happy he goes if I want I can call or text him about work stuff i can? What does that even mean? Im obviously hurt and never want to speak to him again why would he say that?

English please, and by English i mean, not another vague statement**. i dont get the point in him even saying that. I didn't mention nothing about my feelings for him i just said i would like to no longer talk to him. was that him just being extra hurtful and having a powerplay?
