Why do some people (especially guys) fake cough?

Have you noticed this? I can tell if someone is really coughing lol but sometimes they just make it obvious that they are faking it.

To gain sympathy or to attract attention. Sometimes it is used to capture everyone’s attention like when you’re wanting the crowd to turn towards you, because you are about to make a speech or you have something to say and you’re addressing a large group of people. I imagine there are various reasons a person would do this, but in general it is to get attention.

I do it to cover a laugh. And also maybe they don't want to hurt their significant others feeling if they crack a joke and they don't laugh, 😅

I haven't noticed that honestly. I do it only when my mom is mad at me and uses the swear "son of a bitch" in Hungarian.

I live with a guy that does this it drives me insane and yes it is for attention but also early signs of cronic schizophrenia I recommend to run for the hills if you hear anyone do this it only gets worse.

Because they are signaling their friend to look at you. The guy sees you and thinks your attractive and then he needs to signal his buddy or make some noise to turn your head to him. Duuuhhhhh lol I don't know just my thought
