Girls, Why do you make a fake cough?

When it's just me and a girl "never talk with her" in the lift for example, I just keep very calm and let the time go till I go, but the girl make a fake cough or little bit noise, what does that mean? Is it annoying or weird to be calm that way? This situation happen to me several times with different girls

Just a nervous habit many people have that seems to happen a lot in potentially awkward situations, like being in the elevator alone with just another guy.

My 'nervous tic' is scrunching my nose, sniffling or scratching it a bit hah. No real reason, but if I walk by a guy and do that, you can be sure all it means is that he caught my attention. :P

By the way i don't make any noise in front of good looking girls i just ignore them. imagine how intimidated or nervous feeling inside :-D

They probably feel awkward with the silence between the two of you and feel more comfortable with some noise or distraction. That's why you will see girls on their phones or playing with their fingers.

or it could be trying to get your attention, like an "ask me if im okay!" cough
